How to grow a Facebook Group
Thinking about starting a Facebook Group? Here are our top tips for growth, organization and content.
Your Facebook Group should fill a need.
Does your Facebook group fill a need? Are you looking for information or a resource that you just can’t find? Then you probably aren’t the only one looking! Successful Facebook groups usually solve a problem, or have a niche purpose. Stay relevant by niching down and avoiding broad categories.
Create some rules and stick to them.
Having a set of rules that are clearly defined inside of the group will make it a lot easier for you to control the Facebook group as it grows.
If the group is about travel blogging, only allow posts related to travel blogging!
Don’t let anyone and everyone in.
Keep your Facebook group spam free, and focused on your topic.
Groups can quickly get out of hand and hijacked by follow for follow, and random affiliate spammers which isn’t great for the user experience (and can reflect badly on what you are using your group for!)
Facebook allows you to ask up to 3 questions of your possible group members, use them!
When you use Facebook group entrance questions wisely you can quickly determine which members will bring added value and which members are only there to access your audience.
Facebook Group Content
Know your topic, and talk about it. LIVE it! People have joined your group because of it, so get to it. This includes asking questions, posting polls, and sharing resources. A group can get stagnant or repetitive with the same questions being asked or posted, so it’s your job to mix the pot up and make it interesting. Ask questions, create polls. An engaged audience is a valuable audience.
Be present.
Whether it’s a personal Facebook group or a facebook group for a business, you need a front man (or woman).
Being visible and active in the group daily is important for brand recognition, and familiarity. Facebook Groups are about building community, so set and forget does not work for Facebook groups.
Smart (and fast) moderators
If your Facebook group is growing, it can be overwhelming, so hire a moderator or group volunteer to help you approve posts and members. The Facebook group (females in social media and digital marketing) can sometimes have around 100 members, and 75 posts in a 24 hour period waiting for approval. Put systems in place to handle volume.
Growth - Facebook group marketing
Yes, we all want to grow! 100,000 members in a year! True growth takes time. Start by inviting your friends that you KNOW will be interested in your Facebook Group, then join other groups that are similar to yours. When you notice someone in the group that has an interest in your topic, PM them! Keep it non spammy, and make sure they know that your group is going to bring them… you got it.. Added value.
Warning, inviting anyone and everyone to your group will dilute your Facebook audience, and could get you banned from Facebook groups you value.
Follow these rules and your Facebook group will be off to a great start!
